Sierra Leone, West Africa. A country devastated from over ten-years of civil war imposed by a group of ruthless hedonists, ravaged by greed. Rebel soldiers performing atrocious crimes to obtain diamonds needed to promote their agenda to rule and reign.
For Nadia Dundas, either the war or starvation would be the death of her family. She makes a deadly decision when she steps outside the confines of their hiding place in search of food. She is caught by rebel soldiers on the hunt for her husband and stolen diamonds belonging to the rebel lord. When the night is over, Nadia is shot and left for dead and her husband gone without a trace. When she later receives word that her husband may still be alive, she embarks on a journey to rescue him; but what Nadia discovers is that her preacher husband had been living a double-life, and now his past sins has left her in a dire predicament. There is no good option but to run.
Nadia has survived the ten-year war, escaped death twice, but can she save herself from the rebels, smuggle diamonds out of Freetown, and prevent a third insurgency on her people?
Chad Braswell, an American doctor captured by rebels, had witnessed the atrocities against Nadia’s family. Now released from rebel camp, he is paid to rescue Nadia out of Freetown; yet to save her, he must first obtain her forgiveness. Will he be able to persuade Nadia to leave the country with him? Trouble seems to follow wherever Nadia goes. If he must risk his life to protect hers, he needs to know what secrets she is hiding. Can Chad trust her?
More importantly, can either of them trust the other?
