One of the things I love about sketching a character is that it gives me the freedom to create an individual exactly the way I want them to think, act and react. Writers, artists, sculptors do it all the time. We enjoy creating larger-than-life figures that others will adore, love, or even hate.
Whether artistic or not, one mistake we all make is that we fail to create ourselves into compelling characters that others would wish to emulate.
On a previous post, I talked about the little annoying things in our lives that keep us from reaching our goals and experiencing our dreams. I called these, the “little foxes.” Unfortunately, most times, that little fox lives right inside us.
Our mind only plays what we already think of ourselves. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 23:7 that—as a man thinketh in his heart so is he. So you are exactly how you perceive yourself to be. Is that so wrong? It depends. Another scripture (James 3:4) compares our tongue to a rudder on a ship. This means that we use our tongue to direct what happens in our lives. We speak negative words that lead us away from where we, in truth, want to be. I hear people say things all the time like, “…this works for everyone else but me,” “If it wasn’t for bad luck I wouldn’t have any luck at all,” “I never win at anything.” What they’re doing is confirming and choosing the environment and event outcomes in their lives.
My husband worked with a man who was very nice and did a lot to further the organization they worked for. One day, this man was talking to my husband and flippantly said, “you know, the directors could come in here tomorrow and fire me.” Do you know that is exactly what happened? The very next day, less than 24 hours later, the board of directors fired him.
Years ago, the book, The Secret, became a phenomenal sensation. A friend of mine who’d bought the book and read it, called me excited to share the principles and was shocked when I showed her those principles existed years ago and are recorded in the Bible.
The Bible says that the life and death are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21), and then goes on to encourage us to choose life. All I’m saying is that if you’re not satisfied with the flow or direction your life is taking, don’t settle. Do something about it.
Renew your mind and retrain your tongue: I’d like to say, I dare you to try it, rather, I’d like to encourage you for the next 30 days to change your thoughts and words. Anytime you begin to think something opposite than what you would really like to see happen, change the thought. Tame your tongue to Speak the Positive, Expected Outcome. There’s power in our words. Get a pad and pen and write down positive things you want to meditate on day and night. What do you have to lose, but the negative things in your life. Please drop a line and let me know how you’re doing.
