AS IRON SHARPENS IRON, SO ONE PERSON SHARPENS ANOTHER. PROVERBS 27:17

Today, family members and friends said goodbye to one of my nieces. She was only 26 years-old, but had accomplished a lot in a very short time. This niece loved children and all she talked about was becoming a teacher, and that is exactly what she did. She graduated at twenty-two and taught for four years before suddenly passing away. As sad as that is, I’m glad that she lived the last four years experiencing the passion that had driven her since she was a child. Prior her teaching experience, she spent an additional four years preparing, working and walking towards her desire.
I wonder how many of us would say that we are walking in or toward our destiny. I wonder how many of us are truly living out that passion, that fire that burns deep inside. You need to know exactly what you are passionate about or you cannot walk nor work toward it. I’m not talking about your hobbies like stamp collecting, fishing, knitting, or things you like doing, etc. I’m referring to that activity or path you would rather be doing than anything else in the world.

You might be creative, artsy-crafty, innovative, athletic, entrepreneurial, possess a desire to serve others, care for others; whatever it is, don’t let fear stop you from achieving your goal. Start today and start working toward it. Here’s what you can do for starters:

1.      Grab a pen and paper and write down where you would like to see yourself six months or one year from today
2.      Write down the path or paths that would take you from the starting point to your goal
3.      Find someone whom you can be accountable to
4.      Define the first step in your journey and write it down
5.      Set a goal to get that first step completed and you are on your way

Remember no matter what you write down, the number one stealer of dreams is distraction and time. Therefore, I urge you to do the following:

1.      Pray every day for strength and discipline to do your part
2.      Schedule one to two hours a day to work toward your goal
3.      Take time off from TV (unless your goal is in entertainment and you need to study how people act or films production, cut down on your TV time and use it to work and concentrate on you. Those actors and producers have already made it. You need to make it to where you need to go)
4.      Stay away from time wasters – friends who have no desire or interest in seeing you get to the finish line and waste your time with gossip and drama – until you get where you are going cut them off for the time being
5.      Research, practice, study (learn from those who have followed the same path and learn from them, learn from their mistakes, listen to what they have to say)
6.      Track your progress daily
7.      Last, but not least, do the best you can do to get you where you need to be

Stay strong, I’m rooting for you all the way.

 As always,
Be blessed,
