Between Takes: – On set, shooting Bugs on Toast, three of our models, Isabella, Ethan and Alicia take a break between takes.
OK. So after publishing When Freedom Came, I decided there was no time to take a break. I wanted to do another book right away. The problem is, I have about 42 manuscripts filed in a cabinet. Picking the next one was difficult. I had a few favorites which I thought I should work on, but after sharing the list with one of my creative partners, Sky, she picked the children’s book, Bugs on Toast: The Art and Science of Eating Bugs. She felt it would be a fun project and to date, it has been.
With the selection made, the next step was brainstorming the artwork and design of the book. At first, I thought about using stock images, but as I scanned through photos on various sites, it felt impersonal because I did not know the kids. I began to think how wonderful it would be if I could personally meet the kids who would be in the book and not only that, hear their thoughts on the idea of consuming bugs as part of a healthy lifestyle. That’s when I contacted my other creative partner, Anette.
I knew Anette as a photographer, would know and have a list of talents we could use, and she did. In addition, she developed and posted a casting call in the South Florida area. We had a lot of wonderful talents respond, but in the end we had to nail it down to about 20 kids. We had our photo shoot last Saturday, October 24th and I hope to share snippets with you in the upcoming days and weeks as well as inform you of the progress of the book. Our goal is to complete and publish by December, 2015 or sooner.
Be Blessed,
