Although the idea that people #eatbugs as part of their culture is fascinating and welcoming to some, there are others who are still skeptical about this new movement. Despite predictions from organizations like the United Nations that #entomophagy is the solution to end world hunger, and despite the alarming fact that 80% of the world eat bugs, people would prefer to starve than have a cricket platter. Frankly speaking, the idea of eating little bugs and insects provides me a clearer conscience than killing cows and goats and pigs for my consumption–and that’s coming from a meat lover. Unfortunately, our intemperance of meat has lead to the inhumane breeding of animals. Yes it’s the circle of life but many cattle farms are leaving a distaste in the mouths of those who love to eat meat. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not all the way #entomophagist yet. I myself need to get over the “yuck factor” as to what type/kind of insects I’m willing to wolf down. Nothing strange about that–in the same way some folks will not eat pigs or goats, etc.
30-40 years ago, the nascent industry of eating raw fish was just as repulsive. Still today,

some people will not try, let alone eat sushi. I remember my first attempt at raw fish was about 30 years ago. I neither liked nor disliked it. It did absolutely nothing for me. That is until I was introduced to it again some six years ago.
As with anything edible, especially when raw, you have to be extra careful. Therefore, I am very cautions where I indulge myself when eating sushi. Recently I discovered a great restaurant, Sushi O in Raleigh, NC that has excellent sushi. I found out that #sushiO also has a nice menu for those who don’t like raw food.
What does sushi have to do with entomophagy?
Well, in the same way it took time and work educating people that it is okay to eat sushi, it will take time time to convince folks that there are #edibleinsects out there, waiting for us to consume and discover. If not for anything else, insects are packed full of protein and very healthy for human consumption. Again, those with allergies to shrimp and chocolate need to make sure they are not allergic to insects. For me using #cricketflour is a great source of protein and alternative due to gluten allergy.
Although there are not near enough websites and information on entomophagy, there are a few groups out there that are talking about the subject. For example, +LittleHerds is one place that is doing something about educating, not only adults, but the future generation about the benefits of entomophagy. Check out their site if you want to learn more and want to know a good place to start.
Remember, consuming raw meat, fish, insects, etc., can be hazardous to your health. It is always good to eat foods cooked.
Be Blessed,
